The model uncertainty and disturbances are commonly treated using robust methodssuch as the sliding mode controller where by incorporating an integral action in the zero tracking erroris also guaranteed. Practically, the ROV position data is often computed using low cost inertial measure-ment unit (IMU) with outputs contaminated with bias and noise. Failure of mission is an immediateconsequence of employing such biased sensors. However, the problem can be circumvented using theconcept of redundant measurements and data fusion. In this respect, a set of 12 measurements from IMU,magnetometer and Doppler velocity log (DVL) are employed where the last two are aided sensors. Theset up is shown to be capable of providing ROV path following with zero (in average) steady state track-ing error irrespective of its dynamic parameters, environmental disturbances and erroneous data; as if itenjoys the exact values of the position of the ROV. However, intercepting amaneuvering target requires extra provisions to contain target acceleration. This is observed in the next generation of guidancelaws, namely augmented proportional navigation (APN) and the optimal guidance law (OGL). The other advanced guidancemethod is integral sliding mode (ISM), which exhibits superb low miss distance (MD), but unfortunately at the cost of disappointingeffective lateral acceleration (Ceff), higher than the modest level that APN and OGL demand. Reducing both MD andCeff can be achieved using a multiphase algorithm. A setup of APN, OGL and ISM is proposed to integrate the strength of eachand overcome their weaknesses. Hybrid algorithm smooth management is conducted by an optimally tuned fuzzy supervisorycontroller. The results indicate that in facing a constant acceleration target, an APN-ISM twin yields the best results, while incase of a constant jerk target an APN-OGL-ISM triplet renders excellent interception. Miss distance as low as 0.012m can beachieved with significantly lower control effort than required by ISM alone. In a typical FOPID design,a simple approximate model of the linearized system is derived and by making, the derivative of theopen loop phase versus frequency at crossover frequency zero, flat phase margin is obtained. The methodtolerates system gain uncertainty and involves two set of nonlinear computations: model approximationand five-parameter FOPID calculations. The method shows flaws where severe uncertainty occurs inthe form of gain and poles–zeros locations. In this respect, a modified design method is suggested toprevent performance degradation. Using Monte Carlo simulation, the plot of distribution of open loopsystem phase margins versus crossover frequencies is drawn. Instead of approximate modeling, severalfrequencies at the crossover band are marked and their average phase margins from the distribution plotare picked to represent the real uncertain system. Calculations of the FOPID parameters are carried outusing nonlinear optimization method to make phase plot flat around the crossover frequency. The designsequence is detailed by applying to the roll control of a small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) whereoften rough approximates of its aerodynamic parameters are available. For this purpose, an appropriate mathematical model is developed, which can accurately simulate the windingtransient behaviour. But most of these previous algorithms haddifficulty finding the equivalent circuit parameters in a bigger model. This paper presentsa new method to extract the inductance matrix of a detailed model for an air core windingfor transient studies using frequency-response measurement data. This matrix can be determinedwith acceptable accuracy by using the proposed method. The biggest advantageof the proposed method is a reduction in the search space, and thus, speedier problemsolving.Simulations showed that the use of the proposed method leads to better behaviouralquality of a transformer winding. In this paper, aneffective method for the design of a coordinated multiple PSS in power systems are offered and weaknesses of theexisting methods are disclosed. The setup includes the nonlinear model of the system, a specific multi-objectivefunction and a newly developed meta-heuristic Hyper-Spherical Search (HSS) optimization algorithm. The objectivefunction includes both eigenvalue stability index (SI) and nonlinearity index (NI). The employed new NIis the second order modal interaction of the lightly damped electromechanical modes. The performance of theproposed Stability-Nonlinearity index (SN) based PSS design by HSS (SNPSS-HSS) is compared with SNPSS-GA,SI based PSS (SPSS) and the conventional design method (CPSS) under various operating conditions and disturbances.The investigations are conducted over both a single lead PSS and PSS2B. The performance is detailedusing time domain simulations, SI and NI analysis. A four-machine two-area system and the IEEE 39-bus systemare utilized for test purpose. Itis shown that the mFOC design perfectly secures the desired phase margin flatness. The controllers are applied to the roll of an unmanned aircraftvehicle with a 30 tolerance in the aerodynamic parameters, and operation speed and robustness in performance is evaluated. The simulation resultsindicate that the mFOC design renders more coherent responses than what HN and m synthesis design deliver. The m synthesis approach directly considers theuncertainty, but H¥ and FOPID run for the worst uncertainty scenario. mFPM is the modified version of FOPIDdesign where 1) it takes into account the given uncertainty by a graphical Phase Margin Distribution Map (PMDP),and 2) reduces the controller design calculations by working on the samples of the system frequency responseinstead of its analytical equation. The design strategy can perfectly force the desired flatness in the phase marginband and maintain the system performance robustness. For evaluation, the algorithms are applied to a second-orderuncertain system and a perturbed UAV roll control. In both cases, the lowest output response variance and the bestperformance robustness is gained from the mFPM design. The distance relayfunctioning is blocked during stable power swing while it is expected to react as quickly as possible to faults. Non-linearbehaviour of metal–oxide varistor and thyristor-controlled series capacitor (TCSC) make even the issue more complicated. Inthis study, the cumulative sum of the phase current second harmonic is proposed as a unique fault isolation feature. Variouslow-impedance, high-impedance, symmetric, and asymmetric types of fault signals are collected and to exhibit the algorithmrobustness, several disturbance events and measurement noise are applied. The algorithm is conducted over a single machineinfinite bus, and a Western System Coordinating Council 9-bus, 3-machine network with TCSC compensated lines. The resultsof extensive simulations indicate that the algorithm performs excellent regarding some recently developed algorithms. Accuratesingle, two of three faulty phases are marked despite disturbances and powerful swing. To have a convex objective functionand use linear matrix inequality algorithms, the noisy nonlinearsystem is approximated by Takagi–Sugeno fuzzy linear model. Thefault is defined by both the multiple proportional–integral (MPI)and algebraic fault models (AFMs). The results indicate that bothmethods estimate the measured states similarly while MPI rendersmore smooth process fault and unmeasured state estimates at fastertracking speed, but negatively, at higher computational costs. Asa result, MPI is recognized to be a more attractive and robust, atleast, in estimating the state/joint-fault of an under-damped robotsystem. Tominimize the costs, in this paper, a sparse distributed controller is formulized by introducing an l1 penalty termto the cost function to enforce at most not more than neighbor-to neighbor links. This makes the design nonlinearwhich exhausts large amount of computation times. Therefore, by some transformations, the nonlinear costfunction is converted to an approximate quadratic one; which has better optimization characteristics, i.e. fastconvergence rate and unimodal. The proposed fast distributed controller Design (FDCD) algorithm is employedfor a 3-bus and a 69-bus (consist of 7 hybrid microgrid) distribution systems controller design. The resultsindicate that the obtained sparse distributed controller performs well as if a centralized controller is in operation.It can successfully suppress various types of faults injected to the AC, DC, and DC link sides of the network. By adding an l1 termto the standard linear quadratic optimization, the obtained composite index, accommodatingthe sparsity, contains both differentiable and non-differentiable terms. Knowing thatthe choice of optimization techniques are problem-dependent, in this paper, several smartprovisions such as “Active set”, “Coordinate descent”, and separately managing the differentiablepart of the cost function are put together to form a relatively fast algorithm.In addition, a rule is introduced to adjust automatically the degree of sparsity and a constraintto confine the interval closed-loop system eigenvalues to the desired s plane region.As a result, a robust sparse decentralized control (RSDC) approach for interval networks isestablished. The RSDC method is utilized for the control of a multi-terminal VSC (VoltageSource Converter ) -based DC (Direct Current) grid with parametric uncertainty under variousexternal random perturbations.
